Strange Intelligences

The Strange Intelligence Lab explores a wide spectrum of intelligence: from the quiet knowledge of spores and plants, to artificial intelligence, human creativity, spiritual insight, and intelligences that may come from other dimensions or realities.

We’re curious about how these different forms of intelligence connect — and what new ideas, tools, or practices might emerge when they intersect.

What kinds of technologies and creative processes become possible when we take all of these ways of knowing seriously?

AI is rapidly spreading through every tool, platform, and profession. It’s disrupting work, communication, and society at every level. Yet many people and organisations are still unsure how to respond — or are in denial about how fast things are changing.

Our research has a strong practical focus. We’re creating new courses, content, and hands-on tools to help people build resilience and adapt from the ground up.

At the same time, we’re asking deeper questions: What is intelligence? What does it mean to be? How are our spiritual practices and

Project Roots

The Strange Intelligences Lab is ongoing and will finish only when we feel we have reached a natural conclusion.

We invite interested organisations and creative partners to contact us if you want to be involved.

So far we have generated a symposium, publications, and numerous workshops supporting literacy in artificial intelligence. Workshops for 2025 include bacterial and fungal intelligence and spiritual resilience and intelligence.

Core Goals

The Strange Intelligences Lab has several aims:

  • build resilience to the disruptions coming from AI
  • connect ways of knowing and being in the world, and celebrate multidimensional practice
  • support critical and systemic thinking
  • encourage expansive mindsets and perspectives in a world where fear can drive us to regress to fundamental and essentialist thinking
  • promote multidimensional and transdisciplinary viewpoints and practices
  • generate creative innovation at grassroots level
  • create high-quality publications, experiences and educational content that feeds the mind and nourishes the soul in troubled times
  • engage in transdisciplinary practice that truly embraces this concept i.e. has a strong spiritual or thirdspace element
