Strange Intelligences Digest Publication
The Strange Intelligences Digest is a miscellany co-curated and edited by Dr Maggie Buxton and Kim Newall.
It emerges in response to particular projects and inspirations and is independently funded.
The Digest is an opportunity for practitioners to publish their work across barriers, and we hope you will take the time to support it by reading, sending feedback and buying us a coffee today.
Strange Intelligences Digest 02
This second issue of Strange Intelligences emerges from our Growing Material Cultures, collaborative project with AUT University’s BioFabrication Studio. Workshops, conversations, and shared making brought together artists, makers, technologists, researchers, and students working with materials such as bacterial cellulose, fibres, and bio-composites across labs, studios, classrooms, and kitchens.
Contributions for this digest came from participants in Aotearoa New Zealand as well as international practitioners connected to the AwhiWorld network who responded to the concept of ‘fibre’. Some works draw on conversations first shared on the Strange Intelligences podcast; others respond directly to the collaboration’s material and thematic concerns. Enjoy.
Strange Intelligences Digest 01
The first Strange Intelligences Digest brings together a collection of small experiments, field notes, images, recipes, reflections, and hybrid works exploring AI, material processes, and more-than-human forms of intelligence.
The publication acts as a snapshot of a moment in which generative tools, biological materials, and human curiosity intersect in practical and sometimes strange ways. Rather than presenting finished outcomes, the digest focuses on process, signals, and early-stage exploration.
Issue 1 establishes the digest as an ongoing platform for collecting and publishing emerging practices at the edges of art, technology, and lived experience. Works are contributed by Kim Newall and Maggie Buxton.
Strange Intelligences Digest was produced independently within the Strange Intelligences Project.
