Leadership Seminars: AI In Communities
- Is AI being used in your community organisation without you knowing?
- Are you turning a blind eye because it’s just too hard to think about and too valuable for saving time?
- Are you trying to avoid thinking about it all but are fearful you will be left behind?
AI is changing the landscape for Not-for-Profits and community organisations, often in unseen ways. Our leadership seminars in November 2024 addressed these questions and provided some education about AI, its uses, risks, and issues, as well as how to engage proactively as an organisation.
On the 26th, we partnered with Creative Northland to deliver a seminar to arts leaders in Te Tai Tokerau Northland. On the 29th we delivered an independent seminar to not for profit and community leaders across our region and Aotearoa.
The approach was critically reflective, informed, and balanced, and people shared their questions and experiences.
The sessions covered the essentials: how AI can help save time and streamline tasks and the risks, like “Shadow AI”—AI operating within organisations without oversight.
We also explored issues like IP, data privacy, transparency, and trust, which are more critical than ever. We provided practical guidance on steps how leaders can shore up organisational resilience and integrity and develop themselves and their communities to cope with this transition.

More About AI
The session for community leaders was offered by AwhiWorld FREE as part of our self-funded AI Literacy Northland initiative within our Strange Intelligences Lab. It was a chance to understand and navigate AI’s role in our sector.
The session for Arts Leaders was offered in collaboration with Creative Northland, co-hosted by Angela Rowe.
