ARG: Dr Roy Davies
Dr. Roy Davies is a pioneer in Virtual Reality and Calm Computing. He completed his post-graduate studies at Lund University in Sweden and set up one of the first VR research centers in Europe. He specializes in applying VR to real-world situations such as brain injury rehabilitation and participatory design.
Dr. Davies has spent time in both research and business environments, which makes him uniquely placed to understand the stresses of both and bridge the gap between them. He conveys useful research and education into the commercial world and brings complex, practical problems into the research world, as well as providing valuable direction to courses and training.
Dr. Davies is a senior technician (VR) at Auckland University, advises Masters students at AcademyEX and mentors young startups needing a ‘Technology Friend’. In his spare time, he tinkers with electronic devices and VR headsets and builds agent-based platforms for various applications such as geospatial gaming and digital twins.
His primary research, and the subject of this talk, is into how to encourage people to grow strong ideas.
