Since 1998, Sharyne Lewis, known as Bailartheskies, has developed an innovative, transdisciplinary practice that invites audiences to explore the intersection of movement, technology, and visual art.
Her creative portfolio spans photography, drawing, sculpture, and film, each channelling the dynamic interplay between human form and landscape. Inspired by film noir, she melds dance and choreography with film editing, digital media, and dance notation, crafting pieces that explore conceptual and allegorical themes across several disciplines.
In 2023, Sharyne intertwined dance and fine arts threads via Awhiworld’s Alternate Reality Gardening Publication and Symposium – and was an active member of the Awhi Incubator Programme.
Currently, she resides in Te Tai Tokerau, Northland, Aotearoa/New Zealand, a place that continues to inspire her work
In this video, Sharyne re-presents the talk that she recently gave at International Arts Electronic and Science Conference 2024 (ISEA) in Brisbane | Meanjian.
This presentation is relevant to both the Awhi Incubator Project but also the Strange Intelligences Lab as an example of synthesis of a number of different intelligences combined for an innovative creative outcome.
