Geolocation

AwhiWorld integrates geolocation technology with augmented reality based experiences to craft immersive, multidimensional narratives that blend place-based practices with advanced digital mapping.

With Dr. Maggie Buxton’s significant expertise and PhD focus in this field, AwhiWorld pioneers storytelling that transcends physical boundaries, creating rich connections between spaces and cultures.

AwhiWorld has created groundbreaking experiences using this technology, including transdisciplinary education initiatives and creatively innovative installations.

These includes a pioneering installation on a marae promoting cultural storytelling and te reo capacity building, a town-wide immersive sound project supporting diversity education, cultural exchange and creative intelligence and a transdisciplinary project on a wahi tapu (sacred site) in collaboration with mana whenua.

About Geolocation

Geolocation, which means finding out where a device, person, or thing uses digital information, has changed how we interact with our surroundings. Using technologies like GPS, Wi-Fi, and cell towers, geolocation provides accurate and real-time location data.

This technology is the backbone of many everyday applications like maps, ride-sharing apps, and location-based ads. Its accuracy and widespread use have transformed industries, enabling new ways to manage logistics, plan cities, and respond to emergencies.

In business, geolocation has created new ways to connect with customers and improve operations.

Marketers can send targeted ads to people based on their location, making promotions more relevant and effective. Retailers can better manage their inventory and supply chains by tracking the movement of goods in real time.

Geolocation also supports smart city projects by providing data to manage traffic, enhance public safety, and improve urban infrastructure. As technology advances, the uses of geolocation will continue to grow, becoming even more precise and integrated into our daily lives.
