Whangarei Night Lights Festival Mini VJ|PM Lab

This year AwhiWorld used Whangarei Night Lights Festival as a live base for training Awhi Incubator Participants in VJ-ing and Projection Mapping.

Fresh from a day-long seminar within BIOS, participants had two weeks to prepare content, with support and coaching from Kim Newall.

They then performed their images and videos (and in some cases objects) in shifts over the four nights of the festival.

The content was themed around Alternate Reality Gardening – with each person bringing their personal spin and practice to the night.

From the 5th to the 8th of July, participants took shifts to try out content in front of the public in one part of the Whangarei Night Lights Festival held at Quarry Gardens.

Organisers Jarred Taylor and Hannah White were inclusive and generous in their partnership with the Incubator, allowing us a site to try out content at scale.

Several Incubator participants also had works in exhibitions and other sites at the festival supported by individual training or coaching by Kim

It was a great example of taking learning straight into the field and creating a site-specific public facing installation – that changed by the hour.
