Fringe Lab: Pop-up Innovation Lab
A Pop-Up Innovation Lab Created With Creative Technology Northland as Part of Whangarei Fringe
Fringe Lab was a popup innovation lab, public installation and group exhibition located in Whangarei’s CBD during Fringe 2020. AwhiWorld produced the lab as an outreach of Creative Technology Northland.
Workshops, residencies and installations were the focus for the week – all showcasing creative tech in Northland.
Topics included interactive coding, AI, virtual worlds and augmented reality.
AwhiWorld’s interactive installation: Traces Covid 19 premiered alongside demos of 3D printing and other activities during the week.
NorthTec digital arts ran their scheduled classes at FringeLab during the week on App Development and AV Installation. And, we also had web developers and user experience designers worked alongside work experience students during the week – sharing knowledge and learning together.
In the evening experimental projection workshops allowed practitioners to fine-tune skills – with the work visible at street level.
The week-long innovation and hang out lab was collaboratively funded by a core group of creative technologists from within the CTN network and was produced/facilitated by AwhiWorld. It was an official partner project with the Whangarei Fringe Team.
